An Historic Day!

While the rest of the country was celebrating the inauguration, we're celebrating that Macy is 2 months old! She is growing up way too fast! I also posted a picture of Parker so he would see what he looked like on inauguration day and because I went to a kindergarden meeting tonight! It was very odd to be sitting on the parents' side. On one of my late nights with Macy, we watched Momma Mia. I have to admit I teared up when Meryl sang "Slipping through my fingers all the time." I want to freeze frame each day with them because I know soon it will be Tony and I sitting around the house wondering what to do with ourselves (although I am already working on a mental list).

I can't end this blog without commenting on the peaceful transition of power that the world witnessed today. I also have to admit that I teared up watching the Bushes leave the White House. Republican or Democract, they are owed are thanks for their years of service and sacrifice to our country. Watching the events today, I was moved by the outpouring of the love and support shown for the Obamas. I was also a bit sad that as a nation we don't show every president, regardless of political convictions, that same support. We should be patriotic regardless of who holds the office. We may not live in a perfect country, but we live in a great one!

My Turn

It's almost 3:30 in the morning and Macy is no where ready for bed. This has been our story since Christmas. She'll stay up until 4 or 5 and then be ready to call it a night, I mean day. Tuesday, I decided to dedicate my day to keeping her awake. I tried everything -tickling, rubbing a wet (but nicely warmed) washcloth on her face, singing (which my singing would wake up anyone so they could tell me to stop), and opening the blinds so the sunshine could remind her that it is time to be up! Nothing phased her except for her bath. But I can't keep her in the bath all day - she would turn into a raisin! So please share your wisdom with me! Tony and I are getting too old to pull all-nighters!

Happy New Year!

We hope everyone had a terrific Christmas and good start to 2009! We had a special Chirstmas with Macy and Parker as well as my family from Kansas City. Parker woke up at 2:30 in the morning estatic to see Santa had come. He hadn't fallen asleep until 12:30! I told Tony that he had pumped him up a little too much - they had been checking Santa's progress on NORAD's website every few minutes. Even though we were tired most of Christmas Day that is what memories are made of!

Parker is still enjoying being a big brother! Poor Dr. Polito could hardly get in a word with Parker providing all of Macy's vital information! (The second picture) We are having to work though on appropriate distance. He loves to get nose to nose with her to tell her how cute she is or ask if she had been missing him. I am hoping to rejoin the rest of the world next week if Uncle John says the RSV count is down! :)

Happy Birthday Tony!

Breakfast with Santa sounded like a lot of fun! Macy and I stayed home while Tony and Parker dined with Santa. We noticed yesterday that Parker's ornaments for the animals were gone. We weren't sure if it was enjoyed by the squirrels or the birds. Then on Sunday, Tony turned 35! We had a little celebration during our small group Christmas party.

Parker comes from a long line of train lovers. My dad's dad was a train engineer and my dad would meet him at the train crossing after school and hop on for the ride to the train yard. Then of course Tony would love a train with Monopoly on it! Parker has loved Thomas and all thing trains. Last night, Tony set up his Monopoly train. We spent the evening running the train. We're not sure if Macy was impressed, but we all had a good time. Maybe Grandad will bring his train to play with at Christmas!

Fun at HO HO HO HOME

I called the dr. today because Macy is still sleeping a lot which made me a little nervous since that wasn't my experience with Parker. She reassured me that Macy was a happy, full baby. Although Tony would argue that when it is his turn to sit up with her at night, she is wide awake. Wednesday night, she was up from 1 to about 5. I took over at 4. I am happy to say that she slept well last night. Tonight is suppose to be Tony's turn, but I am taking pity on him since he is getting up super early for Breakfast with Santa at our church. Maybe our good night sleep run will continue...

We were very happy for Christy and Jillian to stop by for a visit. Parker decided to save his PreK at home craft to do with Jilly. They had a great time making their rice krispy Christmas houses. Come back soon!

Stay at home mom

Parker is going to Pre-K three days a week and doing what he calls "Pre-K at home" two days a week while I am on maternity leave. We work on the letter of the week, bake together or do a craft project, play on Starfall (a great learning website for kindergardeners and first graders that my mom shared with us - thanks Mom!), and work on other kindergarden skills. We are having so much fun! As a teacher, I love how enthusiastic Parker is and how curious he is about everything. By third grade, I don't see as much curiousity or enthusiasm. Where does it go?

Every day, I can't get over how beautiful she is (I'm not biased or anything!)! She is just the opposite of Parker when he was a baby. He would sleep for 20 minutes out of a three hour period where Macy is awake for 20 minutes instead. She loves to cuddle. Our nights have been fun too - Macy has a hard time understanding that she doesn't have to be held 24 hours a day. Even if we are sleep deprived, I wouldn't trade this for anything. It is so nice to be home with both my babies and not have to stay up late grading papers or dealing with a school to do list. I am having a blast!!!
